Our Daily Routine

At Kia Mena Montessori Pre-School, we are open 43 weeks a year including half terms, with closures during Christmas, Easter, and the summer holidays.

8:15 – 9:15 Breakfast Club Our popular Breakfast Club allows parents to drop their children off at any time during this hour. We offer a variety of breakfast options, including cereal, toast, fruit, and a drink, giving children a healthy start to their day.
9:15 – 9:35 Morning Circle At 9.15 all children join circle time with their teachers to discuss the day’s activities, take the register, and share news.
9:35 – 10:00 Group Time During this time, children work in small groups with their key teacher, engaging in teacher-led activities. Group time helps children build confidence in speaking within a smaller group, while also encouraging sharing, turn-taking, and patience. Activities vary, incorporating Montessori materials as well as topic-related projects that foster learning and collaboration.
10:00 – 12:00 Free Flow At 10am we open up the pre-school, allowing children to freely explore both classrooms and the outdoor space. They are encouraged to use Montessori materials independently and clean up after themselves when finished. Teachers use this time for one-on-one teaching, introducing phonics, numbers, and progressing to word building, reading, and maths as children develop. A snack table is available with a variety of fruit, vegetables, dips, and carbohydrates.
12:00 – 12:30 Circle Time This is a perfect opportunity for group activities such as science experiments, music and movement, discussions, songs, and games.
12:30 – 1:15 Lunchtime Lunchtime is a sociable affair, where children sit together to enjoy their packed lunches.
1:15 – 1:35 Afternoon Circle/ Quiet Time After lunch, we welcome children joining us for the afternoon session with a quiet time activity such as yoga, reading or meditation, giving us all the opportunity to reset ready for the afternoon.
1:35 – 2:00 Group Activities Similar to the morning, children participate in group activities with their key teacher that encourage learning and development.
2:00 – 4:00 Free Flow This operates in the same way as morning free flow. Children can explore the entire pre-school and outdoor area whilst enjoying a snack and working individually with their teacher.
4:00 – 4:30 Circle Time Our final circle time offers the opportunity for one last group activity of the day, including songs, games, or discussions.
4:30 – 5:30 After School Club After School Club provides flexibility for parents, with pick-up available any time up until 5:30. Children enjoy a snack and engage in activities and games.
